Byd Electric Car e6 Testdriven in Los Angeles
Reviews - Professional / Industry reporters
We are pleased to see a report about a test-drive on a BYD Electric Car e6. The guys at consumerreport.org had such chance on the 26th Electric Vehicle Symposium, held in Los Angeles over this week. It seems that they got positively impressed, and let me quote: "Truthfully, it made a better impression than we would have expected.". Also, you may find of interest the last paragraph on their brief article, where they quote a price of about U$S 40.000, and availability -at least for fleets purchasing- at the end of 2012.
Another interesting fact is regarding BYD data on mileage. As part of the official specs, BYD e6 got a claimed range of 180 miles, as we probably all know. The e6 electric car used for their review had 55% of charge left, which -according to the onboard computer- was good for 105 miles. This would mean that at full charge, if things were linear, it would go for 190 miles, which in turn would indicate that the 180miles per charge is a rather conservative number.

Byd announced the QIN concept vehicle, an hybrid electric car, more responsive than F3DM, capable ot going from 0 - 100 Km/h in 6.9 seconds (F3DM did it in 10.5 seconds). It will be also more efficient on the electric energy consumption, as QIN will do 50 Km using only 10kWh. For comparison, F3DM did 60Km using 60Kwh. There is no date yet as of when this vastly improved hybrid car will go for sale, but the suggested price will be about U$S 30.000.
Hertz and New York Auto Show on BYD Electric Car e6
News - from North America

(Interpreted from this article in Nytimes.com) Hertz showcased the Byd Electric Car e6 in New York auto show, right next to a Chevrolet Volt. It is clear that Hertz is serious about electric cars, and not only for the local Shenzen, China rental office, as we already wrote about some months ago, but they are also planning to bring them into New York city.
On a telephone interview, Mr. Michael Austing, vice President of Byd America added that the Byd electric car e6 will be certified for sale later this year in United States. Their first batches will be sold to fleet buyers, including Hertz. Mr. Austing also said that they feel their e6 electric car "is clearly ready for the American market". Needless to say, we are all eagerly waiting for it to arrive in America.
Daimler and Byd's joint Brand will be called 'Denza'
News - from Asia
The first car under the Daimler - Byd design efforts will be shown on April 23 in the Beijing Motor Show. Based on the Mercedes benz B class, this electric powered vehicle will be branded as "Denza" according to reports coming from the Chinese Media, which have been confirmed by Mercedes Benz sources in Germany.
This five door hatchback with zero emission includes Daimler design work for its chasis engineering while Byd is in charge of electric motors and batteries. Denza claims to give up to 186 miles of autonomous driving under normal road conditions. It's batteries will be placed flatly on the car's floor, using a state of the art lithium - ion -phosphate source to store energy.
This new brand and car was designed as a domestic solution for urban driving in China. Hopefully it will be a success and maybe in the future Daimler - Byd produces an "internationalized" version of Denza arriving into our latitudes..
